Ferry mistake proved to be a culinary blessing

"This is fated to be a West Coast destination...Flavours are gently complex, be it a bowl of soup made with fresh yellow and red vine-ripened tomatoes flecked with herbs, or almond crusted goat's cheese cooked on a cedar plank, dressed with thyme ver jus and served with pear roasted with lavender and honey. After the benefit of a glass of sparkling Glenora Fanatasia Zanatta my choice was a trio of seared scallops crowned with an enormous roasted tiger prawn drenched in herb laden Cafe de Paris butter, garnished with carrot, herb and beet emulsions. I almost wept". Full Story

The Galiano Oceanfront Inn and Spa was chosen as one of the Top 10 Most Memorable Bedrooms by Editor Mary Hughes.

"In the 10 years that North American Inns has been in business, I have stayed at some incredible inns and resorts... I look for an escape to unwind. I have found this in the bedrooms that I love. They need to be relaxing, warm and inviting. When I stay at an inn I am always searching for a bedroom that I would love to have in my own home.”

Of her room on Galiano, she mused: “…a balcony overlooking the water….a fireplace for chilly nights. I always said if I was a movie star, that this would be the perfect hideout”.

Certifiably Plush!

“When we woke up the next morning, at the certifiably plush Galiano Inn, (our room had a fireplace and a vast, golden-spigoted bathtub), pulled back the curtain and there it was: gazebo, beach rocks, mallards, open water. At the other end of the cove stretched the long, deserted pier where the ferry had brought us in, and we could almost make out the wooded shoreline on the island across the channel…I could see that in the Gulf Islands my favourite places on land were going to be the ferry landings…”

The Guardian, London, England: A Change of scene

"Certainly this is where we have the finest food - prawn and lobster sauté with garlic flower and jasmine butter, for instance, at the Galiano Inn, an excellent restaurant/hotel/spa where even the soap makes your mouth water (it smells exactly like a blackberry smoothie)….."
